A man accused of killing a man and then stuffing his body into a trash container in the parking lot of a South Texas gas station has been charged with the second-degree murder of his former girlfriend, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.
Juan Carlos Montoya, 26, is being held without bail at the Harris Regional Jail.
The DA’s office said his next court date is April 14.
Authorities said the two met in December 2016 at a gas station in Texas City, where they were in a relationship for several months.
Authorities had been searching for Montoya since January when the man’s body was found in the dumpster.
Montoya is accused of dumping the man in the Houston-area area, dumping the body in a landfill and burying it in a creek bed.
Police said they found a trash bag containing his body, but they were unable to identify it because the bag had been placed inside a plastic trash bag.
A DNA analysis showed the man was a Hispanic man.
Montoy was a registered sex offender in Texas, authorities said.
